Advance/Decline Line - A/D

The advance-decline line is a technical indicator that shows the movements in the value of the advance-decline index over a given period of time. Each point represents the difference between the number of declining and advancing issues and the previous period's value. The advance-decline line confirms the strength of a prevailing trend and how likely it is to reverse. If the market is rising but the A-D line is downward sloping, then the market is seen to be losing steam.
