Risk-Adjusted Return

A risk-adjusted return takes into consideration the amount of risk involved in producing that return and is generally expressed in numerical terms or a rating. Applied to securities, funds and portfolios, risk-adjusted returns makes it more realistic to compare two different potential investments. The five risk measures are alpha, beta, standard deviation, Sharpe ratio and the r-squared.
