Uptick Rule

The uptick rule or plus tick rule is a previous rule that was given by the SEC that requires a higher price than the previous trade price for short sale transactions, preventing short sellers from adding to the decreasing momentum where the asset price is already experiencing sharp decreases. The rule was eliminated by the SEC in July 2007. Talks of reinstating the rule, however, is ongoing.
