Wall Street

Wall Street currently refers to New York's financial district, but was originally the street in lower Manhattan where the NYSE was originally located. Wall Street got its name from the wooden wall Dutch colonists built in this area in 1653 as a defense against the British and Native Americans. Wall Street is also the collective name for the investment and financial community.
