Declaration Date

The declaration date is when the next dividend payout is announce by a company's board of directors. The amount of dividends, the ex-dividend date and the actual payment date are usually included in the announcement. This is also known as the announcement date. It is also the last day when a optionholder must indicate whether he or she will be exercising the option. This is also known as the expiration date. In the United States, the declaration date for all listed stock options fall on the third Friday of the listed month. If that falls on a holiday, the declaration date is moved on to the third Thursday.
