Bollinger Band

A bollinger band is plotted generally at two standard deviations from a simple moving average. This is to ensure that the band takes into consideration the volatility of the market and other market conditions. Higher volatility in the market creates a wider bollinger band, while periods of less volatility creates a narrower band. It is said that the contracting of the bands is an early indication that there will be a sharp increase in volatility.
