How Supertrend Detects Reversals

Supertrend is an ATR-based trend indicator that plots dynamic support and resistance bands around price. When price closes above the band, the indicator flips bullish; when price closes below, bearish. Triple-timeframe Supertrend uses short, medium, and long ATR calibrations to filter noise.

A medium-Supertrend bullish flip — especially after a sustained bearish phase — is a high-information event: it means price decisively broke the downtrend's structure, not just a wiggle. Catching these early (within 3 trading days of the flip) is where the asymmetry lives.

Risk: false flips happen, especially in choppy markets. To increase signal quality, look for:

  • Above-average volume on the flip day.
  • The longer-timeframe Supertrend starting to follow (see our triple Supertrend bullish scan).
  • A break of a clear down-trendline on the chart.
  • RSI moving back above 50 in confirmation.

Indicators Used in This Scan

Supertrend is an ATR-based trend-following indicator that plots dynamic support and resistance bands around price. When price closes above the band, the trend is bullish; below indicates bearish. Our system evaluates three calibrations — Short (ATR 7, ×2.0), Medium (ATR 10, ×3.0), and Long (ATR 14, ×4.0). Triple alignment across all three is a high-conviction trend signal.
